Major events

Forum des religions

Every two years, the University of Strasbourg, the Région Grand Est, the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace and the City of Strasbourg organise the Forum des religions. This event brings together academics, theologians, philosophers, religious representatives, writers and artists to discuss a range of topics related to religion.

Louise-Weiss Prize

The Louise Weiss Prize (prix Louise-Weiss) invites students to write a text in French, English or a third language on a set theme. It is linked to the Écrire l’Europe residency, which hosts a guest artist who sponsors the prize each year.

A gender-balanced jury made up of writers, academics and students selects 13 shortlisted texts. The student community is then invited to read them and vote. Both the jury and the student vote decide the winners of six prizes:

  • Three student prizes (in French, English and the third language selected for that year)
  • Three jury prizes for French-language texts

The winning texts are published with a French translation and a foreword by the guest artist. All shortlisted authors receive a financial award, even if their text does not win a prize.

Every September, the University of Strasbourg and the Regional Centre for University and Student Services (Centre régional des œuvres universitaires et scolaires – Crous) celebrate the start of the academic year with music at the Campus alternatif, a free event open to all. The programme includes three concerts by student and professional bands, along with games and food stalls – a great way to kick off the year on campus.

Artists at the university

A key cultural player in Alsace, the University of Strasbourg has welcomed renowned artists for nearly 30 years, including Michael Haneke, Mathilde Monnier and Wajdi Mouawad, while also supporting emerging creators such as Léopoldine HH, François Hien and Geoffrey Rouge-Carrassat.

Through artist residencies organised by the university's Cultural Activities Office (Service universitaire de l'action culturelle – SUAC), artists offer masterclasses, workshops and other events. Based on campus, they bring new perspectives on research and learning, challenge routines and create unique experiences that enrich university life.
